Kindergarten Nursery Rhymes

‘Hey diddle diddle the cat and the fiddle’ is perfect song for kinder kids. The kids love the excitement and fake mocking in it. The cow jumping over the moon and the dish running with the spoon add rhyme and also the necessary fun element.

‘Wee willie winkie and Little boy blue’ are interesting nursery rhymes. ‘Three little kittens’ is another rhyme which gently revolves on the punishment for loosing the mittens and the mother slowly relenting them to have the pie once the mittens are found.

Ancient nursery rhymes are the funny songs with ‘Humpty Dumpty sat on a wall’ which requires to be enacted. ‘Twinkle Twinkle star’ and the gesture of diamond shape with fingers is liked by all kids. ‘Teddy Bear Teddy Turn around, touch the ground, polish your shoes and off to school’ is a modern version to prepare the child into school going. Two twin aeroplanes, flying high, circling and turning in the sky’ is another modern element in nursery rhymes.

Mother Goose collections are classics and always special. Roses are red, violets are blue is still soothing. ‘Goosey Goosey Gander’, ‘Baa Baa Black sheep’, ‘Mary had a little lamb’ adhere to farm animals with interesting narrations. ‘Pat a cake Bakers man’, ‘Pease Porridge Hot’ and ‘Do you know the Muffin Man’ are versions in food items related to Mother goose poems. ‘To market to buy a fat pig, home again jiggety jig’ is another rhyme done to create an effect. ‘Mary Mary Quite contrary’ is another English rhyme which belongs to the garden theme. ‘Peter Peter Pumpkin eater’ amazes the kid as to how a human being can fit into a pumpkin.

‘London Bridge is falling down’ and ‘See Saw up and down’ are another rhyme specific to attractive actions. Lullabies are interesting in all Indian languages. Carol songs and devotoional songs are essential for kids too. ‘Ye Re Ye Re pausa’ is another rain song, followed by ‘Baarish ayi, cham cham’. ‘Chando ba Chando ba’ in Marathi is met with the Hindi version ‘Chanda mama door se’.

‘Open shut them’ teaches them the concept of shut and close, ‘Hickory Dickory’ teaches them to go up and down. Many rhymes work on the concepts of day-night, hot cold as in ‘pease porridge hot’. ‘Hot cross buns’. ‘Engine Engine Number nine’, when its ready it will shine is another modern work. ‘Miss Molly’ is worried about her Dolly falling ill and is attended by a doctor who comes for his bill.

Kinder garten is the time to start issues related to concepts and build the child’s vocabulary. Regular teaching is necessary with a little sing song rhymes to hold the child’s interest. Rhymes are the best way to build a better bond with the child.
